Superb Set of Six Antique English Geo. I/II Style Hand Carved Mahogany Chairs

About the Item

Fabulous Quality Antique English Set of Six (6) heavy, dense San Domingan Hand Carved Mahogany Geo. I/II Style Side Chairs (no arms) with design influences by Thos. Chippendale and Robert Adam. Please note the Chippendale style pierced and carved back splat with motifs indicative of Robert Adam as in the hand carved "spider web" or "fan" motif illustrated on the crestrail of the back and knee of the leg. Please also note the "hairy paw" of the foot which was a prevalent style of the early 18th century in Britain (and later copied by some American cabinetmakers in the 19th century). These are also chamfered (beveled) in the carved piercing of the back splat lending to a more delicate appearance yet maintaining their sturdiness. Quite possibly some of the finest, heaviest, West Indies mahogany hand carved chairs we have had in years! The slip-in seats allow for ease of re-upholstering as the pleated blue upholstery was added by its last owners Circa 1950 and are easily removed at a later date (and likely would improve the appearance greatly, but for us to change the upholstery unless they are threadbare, which they are not, would add an additional $600-$750 to the price of the chairs and the color we choose might not be what the final consumer wants anyway. Therefore, we leave that to the buyer and keep the price as low as possible. These chairs are in superb, age-appropriate condition.
