Vintage Grasshopper Chair by Preben Fabricius + Jørgen Kastholm

About the Item

A vintage grasshopper arm chair by Preben Fabricius and Jørgen Kastholm for Kill International. This sculptural lounge features a beautiful patinated leather cushion with channeled details and a detachable headrest. It has a polished chrome plated steel frame with curved legs, a cream canvas body and the arms are partially wrapped in tan leather. The striking profile of this chair is reminiscent of a grasshopper. Denmark, 1980s. Preben Fabricius (1931-1984) was trained as a cabinet maker by Niels Vodder before studying interior design under Finn Juhl, which is where he met Jørgen Kastholm (1931-2007), a blacksmith turned furniture designer. In 1961, the duo set up a design studio in Gentofte, Denmark and eventually gained recognition for their minimalistic designs. In 1965, they met German furniture manufacturer Alfred Kill, for whom they would eventually design some of their most iconic pieces. Dimensions: 58” W x 27” D x 32” H; 8” seat height at lowest; 16” seat height at highest; 37” seat depth; 31” seat back height.

    Wear consistent with age and use. Good vintage condition. Some wear to the leather and canvas, consistent with age and use. A replacement button has been added to hold the cushion in place. Some fraying to the seams of the cushion straps.
