Javanese 19th Century Teak Wood Daybed with Storage and Hand Woven Rattan

About the Item

An antique Javanese teak wood daybed from the 19th century, with rattan seat, storage and hand carved scrolling motifs. Handcrafted on the island of Java during the 19th century, this teak (a very sturdy wood) daybed charmed us right away with its rustic character and great presence. We found it in Java on an excursion during the early 1980s. The bed features a hand-carved headboard with scrolling cloud motifs, flanked with straight supports topped with pyramidal finials. The main section presents a low storage compartment concealed under a lift-up board, followed by a hand-woven rattan seat. The skirt is adorned with a carved frieze of linen fold motifs while the ensemble is supported by straight legs in the front. With its interesting design and rustic presence, this Javanese teak wood daybed from the 19th century will make for an absolutely beautiful addition to any home or office where it will be a tremendous conversation piece.
