About the Item

A very-rare and original collectors example of the monumentally sized 77" rhinoceros footstool by Dimitri Omersa for Abercrombie and Fitch, circa 1960s. This example is signed with the 'A&F Co' stamp underside one ear, and is in beautiful lightly aged and patinated condition. Incredibly rare and sought-after, this is the pinnacle pièce de résistance of Omersa collecting. Sturdy and structurally sound, this monumental rhino is ready to be used as a stool or bench for one to two people as it can support the weight of two adults - the interior is built with a steel frame, or use as a designer floor or tabletop sculpture or a friendly companion for an otherwise lonely house dog or cat. Some creative ways to use this Dimitri Omersa footstool is as an ottoman next to a coffee table, a foot stool or armrest next to your favorite lounge chair or reading armchair or use as dining table bench seating for one side of the table. Omersa's designed leather animals for Omersa Leatherworks of England, Omersa & Company, Liberties of London and Abercrombie and Fitch. This example was made for Abercrombie with A&F Co stamped to the underside of one ear. Excellent early production original of this design, ideal collectors example or for an interior design client. Omersa made his first leather animal, a pig, in 1927 and from there created a full suite of interesting and charismatic creatures. Each leather animal is of the highest quality, beautifully stained and waxed. This example is one of the earlier ones, which are rare and highly sought after by collectors therefore very few on the resale market. Incredible opportunity for a collector or design enthusiast to have a signed example in beautiful patinated condition and to keep and collect for years to come. As you can see in our photos, we have a large collection of Omersa leather animals. Some examples include bears, bulls, elephants, hippopotamus's, pigs, donkey's, ducks, and much more. And we have stock in various sizes for many of the animals, such as 4 different sizes of the Rhino's. This Omersa footstool would work great in a Postmodern, Mid-Century Modern, Farmhouse, Scandinavian Modern or Danish modern home or penthouse apartment but could also look fantastic in a contemporary or Zen / Minimalism room. Also consider mixing it up in a traditional, transitional, classical or Art Deco room with a splash of juxtaposition. Would also be an apt choice in a commercial project such as a hotel lobby lounge or members club, creative design studio or high-rise executive office. MEASUREMENTS: 77" long, 27" tall, 17" wide CONDITION: Very good vintage condition with light age and patina throughout. Few areas of attractive light leather craquelure - stable and secure.
