1950s 'San Miguelito' Arm Chairs by Michael Van Beuren for Domus - a pair

About the Item

Handsome pair of restored Mexican mahogany 'San Miguelito' lounge chairs designed by Michael Van Beuren for Domus, c.1950s. A Bauhaus-trained designer, Beuren studied under Ludwig Mies van der Rohe before moving to Mexico in the 1930s and establishing his company Domus shortly after. Beuren quickly became a formative member of the Mexican Modernist movement, and his designs are now incredibly sought after and collectible. The two exemplary pieces were professionally refinished and outfitted with new polypropylene, water-resistant webbing. The dramatic swoop of the seat, juxtaposed with the hard angles of the oversized armrests, make these pieces incredibly comfortable as well as showstoppers. Both chairs retain original Domus labels.
