Finn Juhl for France & Søn Pair of Lounge Chairs in Teak and Leather

About the Item

Finn Juhl for France & Søn, pair of no. 138 lounge chairs, teak, leather, Denmark, design ca. 1959 These easy chairs are designed by Danish master designer Finn Juhl in 1959. Defined by a sleek organic frame in a beautiful teak with its tapered legs guarantees stability and contributes to the chair's sculptural appearance. The tilted backrest with large seat provide great comfort. The seats are upholstered in a natural and beautifully patinated leather. Finn Juhl (1912-1989), born in Denmark, planned on becoming an art historian when he was young. His father however decided it would be a better career move if he went to become an architect. After his architecture degree Juhl worked for ten years with Vilhelm Lauritzen. At the age of 33 Finn Juhl opened his own furniture design practice. In the 1940s he designed a number of creations that regenerated Danish furniture design, and broke with the established furniture tradition. Juhl is known as the one of the most important pioneers of Danish design. He was in fact the first Danish furniture designer to gain widespread international recognition. His work was vital to spreading the “Danish Modern” concept around the world. His designs are re-known for being exquisitely elegant, refined up until the smallest detail and extremely well executed. Please note that the leather shows traces of age and use, such as visible wear and small tears. Reupholstery or restoration is possible before shipping by our experienced craftsman and -women in our own in-house restoration atelier. With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece retains its value and is ready for the many years to come. We kindly ask you to contact our design experts for further information about the endless possibilities our restoration and upholstery atelier has to offer. Of course, a locally organized reupholstery or restoration is possible as well.
