Genuin 1930s Arne Jacobsen “Paris Chair”

About the Item

Arne Jacobsen (1902-1971) was one of the most visionary and progressive Danish architects of his time. He was admitted to the School of Architecture at the Royal Danish Academy of Arts from 1924 to 1927. In 1929, two years after graduating from the School of Architecture, the only 27-year-old Arne Jacobsen won first prize for his ultra-modern concept "The House of the Future" at an exhibition held by the Academic Association of Architects. The house was built in full size for the exhibition, and was the first example of actual modernist architecture in Denmark. The iconic Paris Armchair was designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1929 for a competition issued by the Kurvemagerforeningen. When he presented the famous "House of the Future" later that year, the chair was shown as part of the interior design. Until World War II, the Paris lounge chair was produced by Robert W., who was one of the pioneers in the production of rattan furniture. The Paris chair is known both as the Chair of the Future, the Snail and the Parisian chair.
