Mexican Modern Lounge Chair by Michael van Beuren for Muebles

About the Item

This absolutely stunning and super uncommon lounge chair was designed by Bauhaus trained designer Michael van Beuren for Muebles, Mexico in the 1940s. The chair is constructed of solid pine, with the seat and back beautifully wrapped in woven palm. The chair has been lightly refinished and waxed and is in beautiful vintage condition--the reddish pine frame glows with warmth and shows lovely patina. The woven palm seat does dip down a bit in the middle where one sits, though it is totally strong and sturdy--this natural palm fiber is incredibly resilient! A leather or shearling cushion or seat covering would make this piece even cozier and more inviting. Pictures don't do this this modernist gem any justice. It really is a piece of functional art, simple in its form, but powerful in its presence, and constructed with simple and beautiful natural materials. This is the only example of this chair we have been able to find anywhere--so yes, it's rare. Don't miss out!
