XVI Century, Italian Renaissance Wood Chest

About the Item

XVI Century, Italian Renaissance wood chest. This important noble chest of the Tuscan Renaissance was built towards the end of the sixteenth century. In carved and carved walnut wood it consists of a single axis top enriched with a relief frame and drop-down opening. The front is divided into three squares around which is carved a decoration in vegetable shape. The three squares are decorated with shields surrounded by cartouches, volutes and sinuous frames. In the central one stands the coat of arms of the noble family composed of a heraldic shield "split or truncated, in the first with three stars ordered in fascia and in the second, three oblique bands; with band crossing the partition". On the sides protrude carved two anthropomorphic busts inserted in pilasters with base. The sides are carved with large fluted fan and central circular element surrounded by acanthus leaves. The majestic base, with angular leaves, surrounds the three sides of the chest and is supported by weedy legs. This chest can be placed in different environments, such as an entrance hall, a corridor, a room or a study, but also in a room at the foot of the bed, resulting in a large and functional container as well as a furniture full of charm and great decorative. Suitable to be combined with both antique and modern furniture.
