1980s Bookshelf, Walnut and Black Satin Lacquer, Sormani, Italy

About the Item

In the early 1980s, Luigi Sormani envisaged what would become a hit of the 1990s, later adopted by Antonio Citterio with B&B Italia: a modular shelving that tipped the modularity from the vertical to the horizontal; it broke the concept of the door, moving the attention to the surfaces. This is how the Grandispazi modular bookshelves were born. A capacious and easy to assemble piece of furniture, here offered in one of its versions in the renowned and precious Sormani 20 gloss black lacquer and light Bolivar walnut horizontal shelves. This configuration's total size is: H 262 x W 215.3 x D 47.4 cm (103 1/2 x 85 x 18 1/2 inches). It is ideal to contain coffee table and large art books. Internal display: from bottom to top, the spaces are 41.4 - 62.2 - 41.4 - 41.4 in height (1.36 and 2.04 ft), with - One trapeze in black texturized nextel H 41.4 x 23 x 39 cm - Two T-shaped supports  - One rack (with two movable shelves) H 62.2, shelves 85.8x39.7 cm - Four T-shaped supports (H 41,4 cm) with two shelves 55.9x 39.7 cm - Two racks H 41.4 cm (with one movable shelf each 55.9cm)  The piece comes with a “Certificate of Authenticity”.

    By Smania
    Located in London, GB
This high quality display cabinet, by architect Fabrizio Smania for Studio Smania Interni from the “Serie Mitzar” line is made of veneered bird’s-eye briar wood, on the late 1970s early 1980s. In a striking golden yellow/lime hue, the tall cabinet houses four glass shelves, and is anchored by a two-door cabinet with generous storage space at the bottom. With Memphis Milano movement references. This is an extremely rare piece as they only did a very small production of these tall cabinets and this finish. The two doors have brass handles, and the glass shelves are fully adjustable - perfect for whatever shaped ornaments or trinkets you may have, big or small. Also available is a round dining table and a set of four Vienna straw rattan dining chairs in a similar finish and style - don’t hesitate to enquire if you would like to complete the set. These pieces usually wrongly attributed to these designers Fratelli Turri, Fratelli Orsenigo...
