Rare Regency Library Bookcase with Hidden Build in Coat Cupboards Leather Trim

About the Item

We are delighted to offer for sale this very rare original Regency period solid mahogany Library bookcase with built in twin back cupboards for hanging coats. I have honestly never seen another bookcase like this, it is exceptionally rare, the main body is two separate bookcases that are joined by a removable central stretcher that is carved top to bottom in a barley twist style with Corinthian pillar detailing. Each bookcase has removable and height adjustable shelves. I have two additional shelves which are not pictured. Each shelf was custom made to hold and recess the leather you can see which is totally original. It is naturally distressed and worn but it still exists which is amazing. At the back of each bookcase you have cupboard doors which reveal large cloak room hanging space. I guess the idea would be this bookcase is a study or library piece and when you had guests they would have been shown in and the coats removed and stored out of site. We have extensively restored this bookcase to include securing the frame, fitting new back boards, new feet and then cleaning waxing and polishing it from top to bottom. Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of creasing and wear, we recommend annual waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
