Early 19th Century Country French Louis XVI Neoclassical Buffet
About the Item
Early 19th century Country French Louis XVI Neoclassical Buffet is an unusual design, measuring less than 18" deep making it perfect for cozy dining areas and walls where deeper pieces would intruded into the traffic pattern of the room. handcrafted entirely from indigenous old-growth oak with pressed brass accents and hinges. The tailored, classically inspired architecture includes a finely molded top surface consisting of solid planks, ideal for serving or display, appearing over the pair of drawers and pair of cabinet doors. Only the drawers have received the attentions of the wood carver, with delightful olive branches emanating from a circular border around the brass-accented keyhole, with wheat bordering defining the drawer facade itself. The doors below consist only of chamfered panels in frames, with a modicum of accent on the apron beneath that, and vertical fluting sporadically applied, especially on the corners. The doors open wide thanks to the outboard mounted brass barrel hinges, revealing a surprising storage capacity for such a shallow piece! Note the pegged mortise & tenon joinery throughout the design, a clear indicator of the skill and technique that went into its production, ensuring generations of enjoyment!
