Monumental 19th Century French Walnut and Oak Buffet
About the Item
Fabulous, monumental scale 19th century French walnut and oak buffet. The top has a dentil moulded cornice with cupboards and drawers below having extensively raised carvings and original metalwork. Across the top half of the buffet is an arrangement of drawers, front falls with compartments, and doors revealing shelves. The middle section has two large pull out slides in order to extend the serving area. Below, in the bottom half of the buffet, are two drawers and two huge doors that open to reveal a shelf in each side. A further two slim drawers, with small pull handles, are at the very bottom of the buffet above the canted corner plinth base. All the door catches are very unusual.
Magnificently carved throughout with shapes of diamonds, stars and quadrangles. Excellent workmanship. This type of buffet or sideboard, was designed to provide stylish storage and a useful surface for serving or display.
