English Regency Mahogany Chiffonier Carved Columns and Scrolls, Mirrored Back

About the Item

English Regency period flame grained mahogany chiffoniere with mirrored back, and two open shelves flanked by finely carved acanthus leaf scrolls. The two cabinet doors are inset with brass grilles, behind which is pleated fabric (which could easily be changed for another color or type of fabric). The body of the chiffoniere is enhanced by two turned and reeded columns which form the breakfront aspect of the chiffoniere and end in turned, waisted feet. In addition to the two door cabinet with shelf behind, there is a hidden frieze drawer for extra storage. The backboard behind the mirrors was probably changed in the early 20th century. At only 36 inches wide, this is quite a flexible piece which gives height without great bulk. Circa 1820.
