French 19th Century Napoleon III Period Boulle Cabinet À Hauteur D’Appui
About the Item
A sensational and extremely high quality French 19th Century Napoleon III Period ebony, brass and ormolu Cabinet à Hauteur d'Appui, attributed to Befort Jeune. The Boulle cabinet is raised by six stunning ormolu spiral fluted feet below fine ormolu block rosettes and brass inlaid block reserves. Above is a stunning central door with a most impressive bottom ormolu mount of a handsome and finely detailed lion's head flanked by scrolled acanthus leaves and lion paw feet. The door displays stunning and masterfully inlaid brass designs with extremely elegant scrolled foliate patterns. The door also displays superb scrolled foliate ormolu acanthus leaf mounts centering a finely chased Fleur de Lys, and opens to reveal two adjustable shelves. The two outer panels are likewise decorated, framed within a delicate floral ormolu band. The sides showcase the beautiful ebony wood framed within fine brass and ormolu bands. Above the ormolu egg and dart band is the elegantly curved top which repeats the shape of the cabinet below and displays striking and finely detailed foliate corner mounts and a powerful and intricately detailed central maiden's face. The French polished top is framed within a fine interlocking pattern. Stunning satin and burnished finished throughout.
