About the Item
A sensational and extremely decorative French 19th century Louis XIV st. Napoleon III period Ebony, Walnut and brass Boulle cabinet vitrine. The two door vitrine is raised by a straight base with exceptional inlaid brass designs of striking scrolled foliate movements, jesters, phoenix, and charming butterflies centering a finely detailed etched mask of a beautiful maiden. Each door is decorated with an extraordinary array of brass inlaid scrolled foliate designs with sensational attention to detail and depicting charming scenes of a young boy offering a basket of fruit to two dancing maidens. Lovely intricately detailed brass inlaid foliate movements extend throughout each door with men playing scrolled trumpets amidst beautiful blooming flowers. Each door retains its original glass panes with fine beveled borders and opens to reveal the walnut finished interior with an elegant diamond shaped design at the inside of the door and the five original adjustable shelves with the top three displaying fine brass fillets. Each side displays elegant inlaid brass fillets in a diamond design while the mottled top crown is decorated in the same manner as the base with exceptional scrolled foliate movements, jesters, phoenix, and charming butterflies centering a finely detailed etched mask of a beautiful maiden.

This style was very popular around the time of Napoleon III. The characteristic of this style is the use of small pieces of wood in furniture, inlaid designs with many different materials: precious wood, precious stones, enamel, ivory, seashells, metal, marble etc. In addition, to express the royal style, the "Boulle" style also uses a large amount of gilded copper on the furniture, such as tiger claw decoration, mirror border decoration, leaf decoration, etc. The main elementsof this cabinet is ebony and turtle shell, with decorative details and gilded legs. This is a pretty prominent highlight in the overall black and gold color scheme. Moreover, the head of a woman is in the middle of the cabinet with waves in her hair and grape vines could be representing the Greek goddes of spring Spring.
