18th Century Italian Walnut Canterano Chest of Drawers
About the Item
Chest of drawers (Canterano) hand-made in Italy in the mid 1700s using walnut. This is show-stopper kinda chest of drawers: large, elegant and with a fantastic patina. The commode has very straight lines, and features four inset drawers with flat fronts framed by thin and simple molding. Each drawer has beautiful, large, hand-made dovetail joints. The sides are made made with flat panels decorated by a single rectangle made of thin molding. The top is composed of two boards with ogee edge and rounded front corners. The chest sits on a molded baseboad on the sides and bracket feet on the front. Although the hardware is not original to the piece, it matches well the style and period of when the chest of drawers was made. The canterano is absolutely gorgeous, the warmth of the walnut and the patina accumulated over time is just stunning. This is a very unique piece that will add a touch of italian elegance and style to a home. The chest of drawer is also very large, which will provide plenty of usable storage space.
