18th Century Italian Walnut Commode / Chest of Drawers

About the Item

Italian commode from the city of Siena made in the late 1700s using walnut. With elegant lines and proportions this one is a true timeless beauty! The commode presents three overlay drawers, the top one a little narrower than the others. Each drawer front is flat, with an ogee edge and decorated by a simple linear frame of fruitwood inlay. The top is made of two boards with ogee edge, also decorated by a simple line of veneer and a sun placed in the center. The grain of the walnut is visible and absolutely stunning. The commode is decorated by a slight serpentine edge at the bottom, and still sits on its original cabriole legs and cuffed feet. The back is made of boards nailed to the case with squared nails. This is just one of those beautiful pieces that I am glad made it through the centuries despite the wars, invasions and the pretty unstable history of.Italy. The overall color and character are just gorgeous as the burl of the wood, the fading from age and the little scuffs and marks made through time all intertwine and tell the story of this piece. It will look great in any home it is placed in, and will bring with it that much sought out Tuscan flare.
