19th Century Italian Walnut Rococo Commode
About the Item
19th Century Italian walnut rococo commode is a celebration of the Baroque style blended with the French influence of the shell motif hence the colloquialism ~ rococo. The exuberant acanthus plumes and shell design that adorn each of the four corners first catches the eye, then dictates the form of the double-beveled top which follows the requisite contours. An elaborately contoured and carved apron connects the legs in the front, underneath three drawers with comparatively sedate carvings of intertwined foliates surrounded by egg & dart trim around the perimeter of each drawer face. The luxurious walnut is allowed to shine forth, producing an undeniably elegant visual appeal that perfectly complements the elaborate carved detail.
