Chippendale Metamorphic Chest with Pull Out Writing Desk, 18th Century

About the Item

A Regal English Chippendale Metamorphic Chest having a Pull Out Writing Desk made in the Late 18th Century. The Georgian Chest has an unusual Faux Pair of Cabinet Doors on the back, so that the Metamorphic Desk can be used in the center of the Library. This Remarkable Period Chippendale Metamorphic Chest has full dust slides under the four drawers that still retains their Original Brass Swan-Neck Handles and Escutcheons. The Georgian Writing Chest of Drawers has a Metamorphic Desk that pulls out with the top drawer that is supported by Fluted Pilaster with Casters below each leg. The Fluted Pilaster flank the four Mahogany drawers. The Writing Desk Drawer has a fitted compartmentalized interior under the Black Baize Writing Slide with fold up Book Stand. The Metamorphic Chest of Drawers has a One Board Fiddleback Mahogany Top with Thumb Nail Molding. The Metamorphic Chest of Drawers has its Original Faux Cabinet Doors for backboards to be used in the center of the room or on the wall. The solid mahogany sides have a mahogany astragal molding in the Chippendale Taste.

    Repaired: The Fluted Pilaster have been repaired with a flat metal strap going up the back to give the legs added strength to support the writing desk when opened.. Replacements made: The barrel casters under the Pilasters have been replaced. Refinished. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. Metamorphic Writing Desk Open is 41 inches Deep by 30.5 inches High Writing Surface.
