Important Regency Period Tombeau Commode Stamped Jean-Mathieu Chevallier

Jean-Mathieu CHEVALLIER (1694-1768), received master in 1743
Important commode from the regency period, curved all sides, marquetry in frieze of rosewood veener.
Very rich ornamentation of finely chiseled gilded bronze, such as falls in "espagnolette" , large handles, handle attachments and keyholes with decoration of wearing figures.
Opening four drawers on three rows. Secret compartment between the two upper drawers with opening system.
Molded royal red marble top.
Both elegant and stocky, its shapely and generous forms make this commode an exceptional and unique piece.
Stamped IMC, Jean-Mathieu Chevallier's first iron, late regency period.
Perfect conservation condition. Restored by our workshop with a traditional french polish - original ormolu of the bronzes in perfect condition, simply cleaned.

The commode shows excellent cartouche marquetry carcase of oak, the mounts of gilt bronze with superb Louis XV-style c-scroll and rocaille cast mounts to the angles and the apron and finely cast gilt bronze handles of foliate shape. The top is of red marble (Pyre´ne´es orientale). Stamped "J.Birckle" and proably "JME (see photo).
