Italian Inlaid and Solid Walnut Wood Chest of drawers with Secretaire

About the Item

18th century, Italian inlaid and solid walnut wood chest of drawers with secretaire This chest of drawers with secretaire was made in the north of Italy (Piedmont) around the middle of the 18th century. The cabinet is made of solid walnut wood decorated with elegant inlays that create reserves, frames and color games. The cabinet is composed of two parts, one lower and one higher. The lower part has three large drawers with chiselled and gilded bronze handles and locks. The upper part is instead composed of an opening compartment equipped with a small tilting door (secretaire) that, rotating on pins, can be lowered and raised according to the needs. When it is open it provides a shelf for writing and reveals four small drawers and two open compartments, in which to store stationery and small personal items. Externally secretaire is decorated with a shell-shaped inlay, while on the sides, inside oval frames, are inlaid two female figures with long classic dresses. The chest of drawers rests on square shaped feet. The chest of drawers with Secretaire are very practical and elegant desk models, which have always had a wide diffusion and are still very sought after today. This cabinet has an elegant line and can also be inserted in a contemporary home, perfect inside a professional studio as an office dresser or in any other place, from the entrance to the living room, from the attic to the bedroom.
