Louis XV Ormolu-Mounted Kingwood and Fruitwood Commode 'Mid 18th Century'

About the Item

A Louis XV Ormolu-Mounted Kingwood and Fruitwood Commode (Mid 18th Century). Stamped 'P. Roussel' and 'JME" under marble top. Pierre Roussel (1723-1782) was one of the most prolific cabinetmakers of the period. Roussel settled in the Faubourg Saint-Antoine, in the rue de Charenton and between 1775 and 1780, he worked for the Prince de Condé, supplying him with 10,000 livres' worth of furniture. The inventory after Roussel's death reveals that a large amount of furniture was tulipwood, marquetry, bois satiné or amaranth. He also employed the services of renowned bronziers and gilders to assist in the creation of pieces.
