Victorian campaign chest

About the Item

The Victorian campaign chest would have been commissioned / purchased from a specialist military officers outfitters, usually the Army & Navy stores. This example is their classic design, although it does not have their trade label. Once an Officer gained his commission, he would then go and purchase all the items he needed for his future career, to be transported to all corners of the British Empire. It was made in 2 pieces so that it could be put in its own individual travelling cases to send on its trips around the world. Made of teak, a wood that is perfect for its use, as it is resistant to seawater, add to this it being a hardwood, it was resistant to the knocks it was likely to receive as it was packed on sailing ships, steamers, wagons, or even Elephants as it was taken to the Officers postings around the globe. The top section is fitted a pair of half width drawers with the classic deep drawer under these, that were for uniforms and the headgear. The bottom half is fitted with 2 full width drawers. This Victorian campaign chest is fitted with the original flush inset handles and brass corners. Imagine your friends and family imaginations being sparked by the stories this Military chest could tell recalling all the escapades it had been through during the officers’ postings around the Empire. A Victorian military campaign chest are popular with all ages and fit in contemporary or classic interiors. A bonus is that as they are made in 2 pieces it makes them easy to get up those difficult narrow staircases.
