Original René Gabriel Patinated Oak Sideboard, France, 1940s

About the Item

Original René Gabriel Patinated Oak Sideboard, France, 1940s This is a midcentury sideboard made of patinated French oak and designed by René Gabriel in France during the 1940s. It was created as part of a collection of emergency furniture for war victims, which explains its simple and functional design. The sideboard has 3 storage units and 2 drawers and has acquired a lovely patina over time. It is in patinated vintage condition and would be a striking addition to any room, whether it be a living room, family room, screening room, or office. It would also fit perfectly in a hospitality or corporate setting such as a boutique hotel lobby, cocktail bar, members club, or luxury boutique. Using mid-century design is sustainable as it gives new life to furniture that may have otherwise been discarded. Mid-century design furniture is often of high quality and can last for many years if not several lifetimes. The wear and tear on some pieces can even provide a glimpse into their previous owner's history. René Gabriel was a renowned French decorative artist and designer whose clean and logical style inspired many new designers in the years following World War II. The prestigious Prix René Gabriel is still awarded to French designers for modern designs that can be mass-produced.
