French 19th Century Louis XV Style Napoleon III Period Boulle Bureau Plat
About the Item
A spectacular French 19th century Louis XV style Napoleon III period brass inlaid, tortoise shell and ormolu Boulle Bureau Plat stamped Befort Jeune. The desk is raised by beautiful cabriole legs with stunning wrap around hoof feet ormolu sabots with a Fine acanthus leaf. The legs display striking brass inlaid foliate movements on a red tortoise shell background. Leading up each leg is an outstanding ormolu chute connected to exceptional and richly chased ormolu corner mounts of regal female busts. At the scalloped shaped frieze are three drawers, each decorated with superb brass inlays on tortoise shell and centered by detailed ormolu keyhole escutcheons and flanked by wonderful ormolu mounts with a hammered design. The top displays a sensational and most impressive brass inlaid design with fabulous foliate movements, cherubs and a central and highly detailed scene of personages enjoying wine. All original gilt throughout.
