Mid Century Bentwood Desk by Paul Goldman for Plymold 1946

About the Item

Streamlined midcentury desk of Bentwood construction by designer Paul Goldman for Plymold. This unique and beautiful treatment of wood furniture was developed by Goldman, a master boat builder in Lawrence Massachusettes who created an entire line of furniture based on plywood sheathed in laminate in curved and molded forms. Goldman has been referenced as the “father of plywood technology”, gaining fame for several iconic chairs of the postwar era and for this desk which was in production from 1945-to 1947. Paul Goldman created plywood tubing and bentwood applications for military use during WW2 and then began making home furnishings in the years after the war. His first chair design was for Herman Miller, and his chairs have been installed in Lincoln Center in New York. Examples of his work are featured in several museums.
