Late 19th Century French Painted Beechwood Dry Bar or Counter, Brass Coin Plaque

About the Item

Originally in a French shop, this cream colored painted counter or bar features paneled sides and a beveled top. Gold detailing including an interlaced monogram VR on the front of the counter. A metal plate on the top toward the front of the counter was used to lay down coins and count back change. The top is also fitted with a hinged lid for storage. The counter itself stands at 39.5 inches in height from the floor to the top of the work space. Scrolled capitals above the fluted half columns support the top. The piece is finished with a beveled skirt at the base. Two drawers of dovetail construction fit below the top at the back and were originally used to keep change. Ideal as a dry bar, this piece also has a single shelf and a finished bottom on the backside for storage of bottles and glassware. It could also serve as a kitchen island. Includes two keys. c. 1890.
