19th Century Country French Louis XVI Secretary

About the Item

19th Century Country French Louis XVI Secretary represents the essence of efficiency with a flair for style! Hand-crafted from solid oak, its design is less than 18" deep when not in use, minimizing its floor plan foot print. The slant front top section features understated elegance with intaglio carved detailing with emphasis around the intricate cast brass key guard, which had companions on the pair of full-width drawers below. The slant front also has a shallow ledge making this piece useful for holding books or sheet music. Baskets of flowers in relief adorn the drawers below, with wheat bordering, and wildflower sprays surrounding the aforementioned key guards. Drawers open to reveal surprising storage opportunities. Fluting on the corner posts complements the tapered and fluted legs below. Open the slant-front, which is secured by internal hinged brass supports, and one discovers four small storage drawers, and a small cabinet door that opens to reveal two even smaller drawers, with the back side of the slant front becoming a splendid work surface, perfect for tablets or laptops! Thanks to our proprietary non-petrochemical stripping process, the natural beauty and patina of the wood has been revealed for a wonderfully soft visual impact and earth tone. Circa mid-1800s Measures 37.5H x 35W x 17.5D; surface 28H
