Antique 19th Century Flame Mahogany Rope Twist Abatante Secretary Desk

About the Item

An antique Biedermeier style abatante secretary desk, unbranded. Mahogany with flame mahogany veneers, decorative overhang to top, later added white marble top, brass keyhole escutcheons to doors opening, carved rope twist detailing to front sides & top of apron area, brass & wood knob interior hardware, solid apron, and raised on turnip feet. Upper section has one large hidden drawer of dovetail construction at the very top over the lockable drop down desk surface door which reveals a large black felt covered desk surface, a fronted upper shelf, open lower shelf with rope twist trim, five small dovetail drawers over a long drawer of dovetail construction with dividers. Lower section has a lockable two door cabinet, no keys present, revealing an interior of three drawers of dovetail construction. One piece construction. Likely made in Europe, in the 19th Century. Measures: Overall: 0w 0d 0h, Desk Open: 0d, Knee Clearance: 0h As-found condition. Later marble top. No keys present, locks untested. Losses to lower drawer knobs, loss to lower left trim. Splits to side panels. Desk top, doors, and drawers function properly. Structurally sound and sturdy.
