Louis XVI Secretaire a Abattant
About the Item
This is a very good example of a late 18th century Louis XVI Secretaire a Abattant. The secretaire is crafted of solid walnut and is a generous 39.5" wide. The fall front when down reveals an interior configuration of 6 drawers surrounding a central "cubby" with two shelves above. The lower section of the secretaire is configured with 3 long drawers. It appears that the secretaire's drop front has spent most of its life in the down position as the interior wood has obtained a natural honey color with good patination matching the outer case--with the exception of the exterior of the fall front which retains it's deeper color as it was not exposed to sunlight. The leather of the fall front is an excellent replacement. The secretaire appears to retain its original old waxed surface. All of the original brass hardware is present. Key is not available.

- Condition:Replacements made: The leather writing surface has been replaced. One small nut securing a pull has been replaced. Repaired: It appears that the back of the secretaire has been reinforced. Wear consistent with age and use. Overall very good condition and natural patina. The secretaire show indications of old "dead"/inactive worming.
