English George III Oak Low Dresser with Cabriole Legs, Three Drawers

About the Item

English George III oak low dresser with mahogany crossbanding to top and three drawers. This handsome server has cabriole legs, thumbnail moldings to the drawers and shaped skirt. The brass are old replacements. This dresser was typically used in a dining area, be it a separate dining room or in a large country kitchen. Today they are also often used in hallways, behind sofas, or in libraries where a long staging table with style is needed. This low dresser would have been commissioned by someone with means, as the mahogany crossbanding and thumbnail moldings, and shaped skirt were details that would have cost extra at the time. This was not just a plain low dresser and it has stood the test of time, it is still a stylish piece of furniture that can be used in multiple fashions. At 67 1/2 inches long and only 19 1/2 inches deep it can be happy in many environments. Circa 1770.
