Welsh George II Period Oak Three Drawer Dresser with Turned Legs
About the Item
Welsh George II period oak low dresser with turned legs, three drawers, shaped skirt and molded top. This early dresser retains one of the details that we would normally expect to see in a 17th century William and Mary Dresser, namely the applied moldings on the carcass around the drawers. In remote settings, one can find this interesting amalgamation of detailing. Had this been a l7th century dresser, we would have expected heavier legs, but by George II the legs were generally slimmed down as this dresser's legs are. The four legs on the corners are all original, but the center leg was replaced, probably in the 20th century. The drawers have been restored so they run easily in and out of the carcass, some of the wood in the drawers (not on the front) are an old replacement. Circa 1720-40.
