An Italian Specimen Marble & Silvered Wood Low Occasional Table by Claudio Romei
About the Item
A low occasional table on silvered wood frame and carved feet. Each corner has a detachable carved ending, made of the same wood as the frame.
The rectangular tabletop is a hand-crafted marble inlaid panel. Each fragment shows different characteristics, in color and pattern, which makes the design unique and unrepeatable. Colors present in the sample marbles include greens, oranges, and burgundy, which are partially framed with white, and contrast against the red and beige veined marble backing. The asymmetric geometrical composition is inspired by ancient Roman and Italian traditional mosaics.
Inscribed “Claudio Romei et Scholari Sui” in the right bottom corner of the tabletop.
Professor Claudio Romei established the "Laboratorio di arte antica di Claudio Romei" in 1983. It was afterwards re-named 'Labirinto Srl'. He decided to commence his workshop and design studio in Sabina, near Rome. Claudio Romei gets his inspiration from colors of nature and uses different 'stones' as one of his means of expression. Romei's surfaces are mostly composed of recovered materials: fragments of mediaeval or renaissance majolica, glass pastes, terracotta, antique marble, stones and wood. His works distinguish themselves as they are made with almost completely forgotten handicraft techniques. The studio makes special orders and a wide range of products, recognizable by their unique quality and design. Designs are strongly related to ancient Roman and Italian tradition, plus they hold an element of innovation.
