About the Item
Abyss is a unique, modern coffee table design from British designer Christopher Duffy. As much art furniture as traditional furniture piece.
Duffy casts an eye downwards – looking to the depths of the ocean to dream up a dramatic new coffee table, a creative furniture design, a replica of a piece of the earth’s seabed that introduces the majesty of the big blue to the interior… as well as servicing you with somewhere impressive to put your cup of tea!
Like all of Duffy’s designs, the Abyss coffee table is a conversation piece as much as a functional one. While previous Duffy London works play with gravity, this design is concerned with depth and creates a geological cross-section as mesmerising as the sea.
The Abyss Table was featured at PAD Fair, Art Basel, The Salon Art + Design New York and Art Basel Miami Beach.
In 2019, an edition of the Abyss Table was acquired by the Musée des Arts Décoratifs at The Louvre in Paris to become part of the permanent National collection.
Limited edition modern furniture. Each edition is handmade to order in East London and fitted with an etched steel authenticity plate.

Duffy London Ltd
Ideas-based modern furniture and collectible design from Christopher Duffy and British design studio Duffy London. Combining art and function, and playing with the concepts of gravity, geography, and optical illusion. We work with a talented team of designers, artisans, and manufacturers to turn these concepts into high-quality pieces of statement furniture and sculpture. Works are divided into six main collections - Abyss, Solo, Megalith, Up! Balloon, Swing, and Meeting Pod. Chris and the studio are constantly innovating and releasing new modern furniture designs Works have featured at Art Basel, Art Miami and 100% Design London. In 2016 Duffy London was a partner for the PAD London 20th Century Design & Decorative Arts Fair. In 2019, a limited edition of the Abyss Coffee Table was acquired by the Musée des Arts Décoratifs at The Louvre in Paris to become part of the permanent National collection. Everything we do is handmade to order and bespoke by skilled craftspeople here in the UK. We only use wood from sustainably managed forests and other eco-friendly building materials and mediums. Chris founded Duffy London in 2002.
