About the Item

Title: Tri-Table Year: 2006 An elegant coffee table comprised of fins radiating from a central point and held together at the base to create a light, open structure. Each of the three tiers steps down within the structure of the table, overlapping and following a graceful curve. Please note that the nature of this design makes for a more delicate piece, not suited for rough treatment. This piece is unpolished and unsealed and will air-oxidize over time, turning a mellow, honey-brown color. Can be polished and sealed per client request, please inquire. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ABOUT THE ARTIST: A self-taught artist, TJ Volonis’ creative work incorporates a wide variety of themes: human biological processes, the natural world and man's relationship to it, hidden systems, technology and contemporary culture, and the implicit balance between order and chaos, among others. He views his work as a collaboration between the material with its limitations and his own intentions and designs. TJ received a BA in Japanese Studies from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. After graduating, he moved to Brooklyn and has been a resident of the borough for the last 15 years, designing furniture and creating art for the last 11 of those years. He lives in Park Slope and works out of a metalworks studio in Gowanus. His work has appeared in: Architectural Digest, LUXE, The New York Observer, Wallpaper* Magazine, Elle Decor, Lonny Magazine, Freshome, Design Milk, Core 77, Artsicle, Gotham Gazette, and Examiner. He was also selected as one of NYC's top emerging artists in December of 2011 and 2013 and was the 2005 Best Emerging Artist in Mixed Media at the GLAAD OUTAuction.
