19th Century Adjustable Writing Table, or Easel

About the Item

A 19th century French adjustable tilt-top table, or easel, made of solid walnut with a sturdy turned post and cast brass mechanism. Beautiful character and patina with waxed finish. Tabletop may be tilted flat or angled and has a small latched ledge to hold a book or dinner tray. The top may be centered over the post or can slide to one side. The height adjusts from 30” to 47”(flat). Base has decorative carved floral medallions and is on new brass castors that roll smoothly. The cast brass mechanism is stamped by the maker: Table "Soleil" Brevetée, Paris. Designed by E. Chouanard, engineer and sole dealer for this "Sun" table system. Perfect for use as a standing desk, lectern, easel, drafting table, or breakfast tray. Excellent quality and condition with only a small piece of walnut missing from left bottom corner of tray.
