Chinese Red Lacquer Painting Table, c. 1900
About the Item
This elegant elmwood painting table was crafted over a century ago by artisans in northern China. The broad tabletop provided an ideal surface for unfurling a scroll to compose poetry or calligraphy paintings. The table is beautifully proportioned with a simple frame, accented by humpback stretchers and subtle beading along straight legs. A subdued red lacquer finish gives the table a warm glow, softened by a rich patina that can only be achieved with age.
