Swedish Gustavian Drop-Leaf Table with Birch Faux Paint

About the Item

Gustavian drop-leaf table with original untouched faux paint imitating birch. The table has one extra table top on each side and double gates. Made in northern Sweden, circa 1810. Handmade hinges in in iron riveting the extra table tops to the main section. The middle section of the table tops is more worn and the paint is more distressed because the table would usually stand with the extra table tops folded down in front of a window. The extra tops were then folded up and used during meals. The mid section is 38 by 118 cm and each extra top is 67 cm making the total possible width 172 cm. Note that the Swedish Gustavian period corresponds to the neoclassical period.
