Art Nouveau Period French Marquetry End Table
About the Item
Art Nouveau period French marquetry end table is a masterwork of the furniture maker's art. Octagonal top is exquisitely inlaid with ebony, satinwood and mahogany to create a cameo-style profile of a beautiful maiden. The detailing around the portrait silhouette is astonishing, but the artisans then created an olivewood framework around that following the contours of the eight-sided beveled top with fruit and foliate motifs. Four artfully turned legs provide support, and are reinforced by a square shelf below that has been also lavished with marquetry detailing for a stunning two-tiered effect.
