17th Century Bleached English Oak Kitchen Table
About the Item
Kitchen or Farm Table hand-made in England in the mid 1600s using oak and pegged construction. This is an absolutely stunning table with a long, long life. Being an antique dealer I come across a lot of pieces that are very old but there are some that just really beg to be asked what they have seen throughout their life: wars, famines, family dramas ... this table has seen them all! The top of the table consists of a single large board, inset in flat molding and sits son a straight apron that has been decorated with simple geometrical hand-carvings at some point. The table has four large hand-turned legs connected by a box stretcher, and sitting on block feet. At every joint of the table one can see clearly the wooden pegs that still hold it together, as well as the wear accumulated over time. The table was bleached, and there is something special about how very old English oak bleaches, it stays warm and acquires a deep white/ light gray color.
This is an absolutely stunning table, and so so so so old! The structure is sturdy and this guy can still be used on a daily basis to prep meals, or just sit in an entryway to welcome your guests. This is most definitely a conversation piece that will wow everyone entering your home.

- 18th Century Bleached Walnut Italian Credenza, Buffet, SideboardLocated in Carmine, TXWalnut credenza handcrafted in Italy in the mid 1700s and bleached recently. Don't let its delicate overall appearance fool you because, as my lower back can attest, this baby is heavy. This is a beautiful credenza that follow the typical italian style with slanted sides, which create small triangular storage spaces on either sides of the two main front doors and drawer. Overall the credenza is very straight in lines. The drawers have flat overlay fronts, and the doors show chamfered panels with a raised carving and are framed by flat molding. The carving and molding help giving the piece some depth and decoration. The bleaching process also provided the credenza with additional warmth, depth and decoration, by bringing out the beautiful grain and underlying colors of the wood. The top of the credenza is composed of boards with ogee edge nailed to the main case. On the inside the credenza is very spacious, providing plenty of storage space. Overall this is a beautiful piece that has lived a long life, and has received some help in "hanging in there" over the years. This is a piece that will fit well with both modern and...Category
