French 19th Century Oak Farmhouse Dining Table

About the Item

A Very Attractive Mid 19th Century Oak, Beech And Elm French Farmhouse Kitchen Dining Table, Having Well Figured Plank Top With Cleated Ends, Over One Drawer To Elegant Frieze, Raised On Bold Square Legs. This is a both charming and practical dining table due to the fact it is such a fabulous little size, a very comfortable 8 seater, it is the perfect shape for just about any dining room. It retains a reasonable colour to the top, which is extremely well figured and also has cleated ends. These cleated ends are always a sign of quality and their purpose is to help ensure that there is not to much movement between the planks from which the top is constructed. They have certainly served their purpose on this occasion. The base is attractive, with no structural defects to speak of and this results in the table being particularly robust and solid. It is also very much worth noting that with no stretchers low down between the legs there is never an issue in terms of a persons legs when trying to sit at the table, or indeed when trying to tuck chairs under it. There are many farmhouse dining type tables on the market for sale, but few will measure up to this lovely little one in terms of its perfect size and great condition. As with all items which we offer for sale it has been naturally wax polished, in the traditional manner, by our specialist antique furniture restorers before being offered for sale, ensuring it is ready to be placed straight into the home. Located in Bedfordshire, GB
A very good quality 19th century regency period oak wine table, or lamp table, attributed to gillows of lancaster, having shaped tray top with gadrooned, carved, decoration over moulded reverse tapering column with stylised lotus baluster and elegant swept tripod legs with foliate carved decoration. "Attributed To Gillows." This fine quality, charming little table follows a widely recognised design pattern which features in the Gillows Estimate Sketch Books for 16 July 1822, which refer to a "double round cornered top" and then appear again several times throughout the 1820's and 1830's. The designs are often referred to as "Flower Stands", or "Flower Tables" and there are various different itinerations to be found throuout the Regency and William IV periods. Constructed from charming, warm, rich oak veneers this little table is a great example. The carving is crisp and well executed and it retains a good colour and patina. It also remains in excellent condition and has clearly been well loved and well looked after throughout its history. The dimensions are great. Big enough to be practical and functional, but small enough to go just about anywhere around the home and serve a purpose as an antique lamp table, antique bedside table, antique wine table antique...
