About the Item
We present a charming rare hand carved and painted parcel gilt wooden pedestal / stand from Italy.
Sculptural in form and dating to the mid-20th century, this incredible work features an elegantly whimsical design with a round table-top over a richly sculpted standard modeled as a naturalistic tree, with a pair of playful climbing red squirrels, rising on an ornate Rococo style stylized openwork circular base. Circa 1940s
A magnificent example, this piece is in great shape, with beautiful patina over the whole. Strong, sturdy and stable, this stylish (likely Venetian) work is as warm and attractive as it is functional, adding rich depth, dimension, and vintage character to any space, it's exquisitely detailed, polychrome decorated, lavishly gilded, having some minor wear, tear and losses to the mildly distressed, textured original finish.
Ideal size and proportions for a variety of uses including as decorative art display, sculpture or statue pedestal, torchiere candleholder, plant stand, artistic guerdidon, tall side table, as a stunning entry statement piece, or use it alone as a splendid work of art.
