T. Simpson & Son English Victorian Relief Carved Mahogany Tilt-top Table

About the Item

An antique English Victorian finely hand carved mahogany gateleg side table by Thomas Simpson and Son. Born in England in the late 19th century, having a hinged oval tilt-top with intricate foliate relief carvings and incised detailing, folding nearly flat for easy storing when not in use, rising on turned gate-legs, ending on blunt arrow feet, signed, retaining the original paper label, T. Simpson and Son, Cabinet makers, Upholsterers, Gilders, &c. 15 and 17 Waterhouse Street, Halifax, West Yorkshire, England, with hand signed workmans name and No. circa 1880s Dimensions: (approx) 24.25" High, 27.25" wide, 20.5" deep As warm and attractive as it is useful, having the ideal size and proportions for a variety of different uses, including as a chair side table, tea table, cocktail wine drinks stand, light-weight portable dessert serving tray, sofa table, to name just a few. Great original antique condition with beautifully aged warm, rich, dark patina over the whole. Retaining original antique character marks. Presents well. Strong, sturdy, stable and structurally sound.
