Hugo Berger Goberg German Jugendstil Owl Wall Hanging Match Box Holder

About the Item

A very stylish German Jugendstil iron industrial style owl wall hanging match box holder designed by Hugo Berger for Goberg and dating from around 1910. This heavily made sheet metal wall hanging match box holder is modelled as an owl sitting on a perch with incised features and with brass eyes and beak. The match box holder sits behind the owl and is mounted on a rectangular back plate with a simple stipple design around the edge. There are also two protruding pins to the lower body and believe these may have been for hanging a candle basket or similar. The front is not lacquered and has gained a natural rust surface industrial appearance while the back is lacquered and impressed GOBERG. In good condition with natural age wear to the front.
