Rare Jugendstil Boy & Scythe Communist Propaganda Style Wall Plaque in Oak Frame
About the Item
Handcrafted and hand painted antique wall plaque.
We feel that this rare work of art from the turn of the century is either Russian or German. There are some hand-written marks in the back of this plaque (see image 9), but unfortunately the artist has not signed this top quality antique. The calm yet determined look on this young man's face, what he is wearing (combined with the subject matter) makes us associate this sculptural plaque with the socialist and communist propoganda style that we know from early 20th century Germany and Russia. This particular work of art is made of hand-cast plaster (in relief) which was either hand-painted before or after having gone into the kiln. The colors of the 'paint job' are truly magnificent and most people will think this plaque is either bronze or of another (embossed) metal. The original, solid oak frame too is in excellent condition and if you like this rare and cultural/historical antique as much as we do then you will love our price.
