"Perfuming Her Handkerchief", Fabulous Art Deco Ink Drawing, Woman at Her Vanity
About the Item
This bravura ink drawing, depicting a fashionable woman seated at her vanity table, applying an elegant bottle of perfume to her handkerchief, represents the fusion of Art Deco and Cubism in its most flamboyant form. Executed for a 1920s perfume advertisement, the scene is fractured into several components, threaded with images of Egyptian lotus flowers, flowering bushes and other motifs. A note on the reverse indicates that the drawing was by Dutoit, but we know nothing more about the artist. The ink is on paper, and is matted and framed. Dimensions include frame; visible drawing is 16.75 inches high by 11.5 inches wide.
