20th CENTURY CARLO DOMENICI'S RURAL SCENE WITH WOMAN AND CHILD
About the Item
Carlo Domenici (1897-1981) was an artist deeply passionate about nature and the landscapes of Tuscany. He inherited this love from the great masters, such as Giovanni Fattori, and produced both small and large landscape masterpieces. His paintings depicted common scenes of rural life, yet they were completely infused with the personal emotions that these views stirred within the artist himself. Domenici had the ability to convey these emotions through his canvas and colors. In Domenici's works, one can breathe in the air of the Tuscan countryside, with its everyday atmospheres marked by the rhythms of work. His paintings are warm, thanks to his skilled use of color combinations. Even though in some cases the subjects depicted show signs of the hardship of their laborious work, the paintings are always permeated by a sense of peace. Perhaps this tranquility stems from the trust conveyed by a serene everyday life. Domenici's brushstrokes undoubtedly reflect the tradition of the Macchiaioli movement and are rapid in defining the volumes of forms and figures through color. The wild nature of Tuscany becomes a constant theme in his art, appearing repeatedly throughout his career, captured from different angles and in various transformations. In this particular painting, Domenici portrays a scene of rural life, featuring a woman seen from behind with a child under the pergola of a house. The painting is contained within a golden frame.
