Charles Dix 1970's Modernist Post Modern Original Acrylic Impasto Painting Art

About the Item

Charles Dix 1970's Modernist Post Modern Original Acrylic Impasto Painting Art Signed A rare signed painting by artist Charles Dix. This beautiful artwork features the artists’ signature impasto application using acrylic paints. “Nonobjective”, is the word Dix used to describe many of his paintings from this era. His fascination with time and space often led to a subtle galactical depiction where space is caught in some nebulous form. “I used tightly controlled acrylics on which hard edged areas of “close valued” color unexpectedly but smoothly made the transition from one point in the visible spectrum to the other.” (Dix, 1939-2005). This painting features an impasto application on canvas; in the shades of copper, green, sea green, yellow, blue, and white. A speckled warm-toned brushed nickel frame compliments the piece with a 1.5" border. Outfitted with hardware to hang in a horizontal position. Can be changed to display as a vertical as customer desires. Artist's signature in lower corner. Condition: Acrylic paint has some natural cracking throughout. A few tiny specks on right side (light blue area) which may not be original to application. Frame has some tiny pink marks, and some minor imperfections. Please refer to last photo collage. The Artist: A Wisconsin native, Charles Dix commissioned his own house/studio/gallery "Moonwalk", in 1970 and expanded in 1981, to live and work from, and feature many of his one-of-a-kind and award winning art works. This impressive structure sat on a beautiful lot in Delafield, surrounded by 5 acres of lush gardens and a nearby river. This was a tourist destination for artist and garden enthusiasts alike. This was also a place to host special fundraising events; for The American Diabetes Association, which Dix felt personally connected to, having diabetes since childhood. The building was later demolished after a river caused flooding to his property, damaging parts of the 1st floor gallery and causing ruin to some of his work. As a resident of Tucson, AZ, some of the works Dix created were a direct reflection from his time there. It was his second home away from home. Dix passed away from a heart attack at a Tucson clinic at the age of 65. Dix's paintings are quite rare and incorporate watercolor, abstract, but most regarded, acrylic and mixed media through use of impasto techniques. After our personal visit to his remaining sister Barbara, she noted he would paint well into the night, often until exhaustion forced him to sleep. He felt like a vessel for some other force to interpret some message, it was his calling to be a vector for art. He often portrayed hidden messages he couldn't fully understand but needed to convey.

  • Mid-Century Modern Sculptural Driftwood Glass Planter Insert Coffee Center Table
    Located in Thiensville, WI
Truly unique and one-of-a-kind driftwood coffee center table with planter inserts. Nature surely delivers some beautiful artwork, such as this sculpted wood base. The shape mimics that of two separate tree trunks with their entangled root bases. The strong base is realized with a 3/8 inch oval shaped glass top, customized with planter inserts which are fixed into each of the tree trunk stems. The planter inserts have metal spikes at the bottom to allow for secured placement of faux plants. Spike plates can be removed. You have the option to add a small pot or vase within both planter openings, or plant into the customized metal pots directly. Glass can be removed by lifting upward, in which metal pots are lifted and removed as well. Metal pots are what keep the glass secure to the driftwood base. We showcased 2 separate plant ideas for reference only; plants are not included in the purchase. The movement and fusion of this driftwood adds a very natural and organic feel to any design. Coupled with the ability to customize your own style of plants with the inserts makes this table an adaptable show piece. A rectangle center table...
