JAMES NORTHCOTE 1480-1517 PAiNTINGS PRINCESS BRIDGET & MARRIAGE OF SHREWSBURY

About the Item

Royal House Antiques is delighted to offer for sale this stunning pair of 16th to 17th century, miniature oil paintings which are after the originals by James Northcote (1480-1517) the originals are titled "Princess Bridget Plantagenet" which was dedicated to the Nunnery at Dartford worth, and the "Marriage of Shrewsbury" They are an exquisite pair, possibly earlier and made by the artist himself but for me to say is impossible, they come with very sweet giltwood frames which are nice and decorative Each piece has a hand written inscription in the back which is tricky to read Dimensions Height:- 19.5cm Width:- 16.5cm Depth:- 4.5cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point, if you would like any additional or specific measurements please ask Any questions please feel free to ask before you bid Condition Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.

  • Spanish Colonial Cuzco Painting of Archangel Michael
    Located in Pasadena, CA
This is a very good Spanish Colonial, Cuzco School (Cuzqueno) painting of the Archangel Michael. The painting appears to have little or no restorations and, as such, is in remarkable condition. We have chosen to leave that painting as found as the patina highlights the depth and character of the painting. We have listed separately two complementary larger paintings of the Virgin Mary and the Archangel Michael acquired from the same estate. The Cuzco school is a Peruvian Spanish Colonial religious artistic tradition in which Incan spirituality was incorporated into Catholic iconography. These Peruvian paintings incorporate artistic forms that distinguish Cuzqueno paintings from other Spanish Colonial artistic traditions. The Jesuit order, arriving in the mid-16th century, was the principal Catholic order whose mission it was to convert the Inca to Christianity and introduce Christian iconography and European type painting techniques to the Inca capital of Cuzco. Cuzco School paintings...
